Over 210 branches of commercial banks in the earthquake-affected areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP have been made functional due to efforts of the State Bank and the concerned banks' management, said a handout on Friday.

About 230 branches of seven commercial banks including National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Habib Bank Limited (HBL), United Bank Limited (UBL), Allied Bank Limited (ABL), MCB Bank, Bank of Khyber and the Bank of Punjab were operating in Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Mansehra and Abbottabad before the 7.6 magnitude deadly quake razed to ground many constructions on October 8.

10 NBP branches-nine in their own buildings and one in SBPBSC Bank building are operational, besides five out of nine HBL branches, three out of six ABL branches, two UBL branches and one each of MCB, Bank of Khyber and Bank of Punjab have started operating in Muzaffarabad and other parts of Azad Kashmir.

All the existing branches of NBP (17), HBL (18), ABL (3), UBL (6), and one MCB branch have started operation in Rawalakot.

In Bagh, eleven NBP branches, five of HBL, one ABL branch (while another collapsed), two UBL branches have restarted their function.

NBP had 54 branches in Abbottabad out of which 51 are operational. Out of 12 HBL branches 10 have started functioning in the city while 17 ABL branches have also resumed their function.
